Neil Hahne of Moreau-Grand Electric installs colorful street banners in downtown Eagle Butte. The addition of the banners is part of the "Spruce Up Downtown" campaign led by Four Bands and the Cheyenne River Chamber of Commerce.

More than 150 local residents have particpated and graduated from the CREATE class, offered by Four Bands. Participants in the summer 2007 CREATE course are: (pictured from left to right) Cora Mae Haskell, Business and Finance Trainer for Four Bands Community Fund, and CREATE graduates Betsy Mitchell, Don Mitchell, Matt Red Bear, Nancy Dupris, Wendy Fischer, and Karen Kinser.

Business training and technical assistance is important to small business success. Four Bands works with people from the Cheyenne River Reservation individually and in group settings to help them prepare a business plan, open a business, and deliver products or services to their markets. Because of the extreme poverty conditions of the people we serve, the training and technical assistance services are offered at no charge. These services are expensive to provide.

Four Bands must raise different types of capital-contributions, investments, and grants-to deliver technical assistance and make loans, which in turn expand our earned income potential.

We want as many people and institutions as possible to share in the successes of Four Bands, to strengthen our capacity as a CDFI that supports small businesses, and to help us invest in people on Cheyenne River Indian Reservation. Four Bands is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charity. Therefore, gifts to us are tax deductible to the fullest extent permitted by federal law. We conduct an annual audit of our financial information. Our latest audit summary and a complete report of our full audit are available on our website.

We're excited about our new campaign to attract more than $2 million in new investments and grants. We will use these funds to leverage additional capital to lend. We'll also use funds to provide financial literacy and small business development services on the Cheyenne River Reservation. Learn more at $2 MILLION AND TEN BY 2010.

Here's what one of Four Bands' contributors says about us:

"Four Bands Community Fund has developed a national reputation for the quality services Tanya Fiddler and her excellent staff provide. They offer financial education, entrepreneurship development, asset building products, and a host of other programs that are improving the lives of residents of the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation and beyond. I have the privilege of working with dozens of non-profit organizations across South Dakota, and few are as effective or clearly making as much of a difference in their communities as Four Bands Community Fund.”
Jerry Nachtigal, Vice President, Public and Government Affairs, Citibank (South Dakota), N.A.
